I think humanity is going towards this dark void because we never questioned reality, we never thought critically before doing something and most importantly we kept dividing ourselves into groups rather than acting as a whole species. Only if we had realized what drastic impact overpopulation can have we could have stopped there but no, we didn't.

Maybe all this is happening because we were evolved to survive and grow in numbers rather than understanding how everything functions.
